SEFA Memorable Challenges 2011

Skyline graduate Tony Nguyen and keen SEFA supporter Anthony McConchie have both taken on Memorable Challenges to fundraise for Skyline this year.

On completion of fundraising over $6,000 each, Tony will cycle through India and work in an orphanage and Anthony will trek The Great Wall of China.

So far Tony has raised $2,160 and Anthony has raised $4,343. Anthony recently shaved off his beard; friends and family challenged and sponsored him to grow it for the last 12 months. This luxurious beard weighed 18 grams after it was shaved off! A sausage sizzle at Bunning’s Keysborough on the 4th September will further assist the boys with their fundraising.

Please support these hard working boys, and Skyline, by visiting their fundraising pages at:

Graduation Address - December 2009

During my 2 years of involvement with Skyline, I was able to achieve what I set out to. Skyline provided me with the opportunity to reach greater heights in all aspects of my life. I owe a lot to Skyline, and if it were not for the great people involved, I doubt that I would be in the same position as I am today. Through the help of Vicki, Angela and Jason, along with the people behind the scenes such as the board of the Skyline Education Foundation Australia, I was able to take on all the challenges during my VCE experience. Skyline gave me the confidence and belief to successfully navigate through year 11 and 12, and was a major motivator during that time.

Besides the many benefits that Skyline was able to provide me with, such as financial aid, one particular aspect of the entire program that always continued to push me forward was the fact that I knew that there were so many people who had put so much time and effort into mine and all the other participants’ wellbeing. With that in mind, I knew the least I could do was to give 100% and keep going, and to make the most of this golden opportunity. At certain times, it was difficult to maintain a high level of motivation and discipline, but with that thought in the back of my mind, along with many other factors, I knew I couldn’t waste the chance that was given to me by letting everyone down.

In the end, I feel that my overall VCE experience was a success with Skyline being a major contributor to that time in my life, and I have been able to come out of it a bigger and better person. Skyline has now enabled me to continue my dream of one day working within the sports industry and for that I am forever grateful for such a great opportunity.  Skyline has helped me in so many ways and continues to be a constant thought in the back of my mind. My involvement has been of huge benefit to my family and myself and my only hope is that they can continue to support others in the same way that they were able to support myself. Thank you Skyline for the opportunity of having a better life.

Residential Workshop at Grantville Lodge

Workshop

The Skyline VCE Bursary Program participants enjoyed a weekend residential workshop at Grantville Lodge in March this year. The camp was a great opportunity for new bursary recipients to meet with each other and the training team, and the year 12 group to renew friendships.

The weekend was very successful, and in between the fabulous meals and enjoying the stunning views, the group spent time looking at their goals and expectations for 2009, addressed hopes and fears for their VCE, investigated university and career choices and worked on how to manage their time better. The workshop sessions were led by our wonderful trainers Angela Gent and Jason Hine who once again tailored sessions to meet the groups’ specific needs, and helped the participants develop strategies for the challenges of their VCE studies. The Skyline Board Members enjoyed sharing dinner with the group and Sarah Davies gave an after dinner address and Bev Brock read “The Precious Present”, both speakers inspired the group.

At the end of the weekend a tired and motivated group headed back to their homes with much to think about and many new friends.
